Scar Revision with Lymphatic Drainage
Scar Revision Therapy with lymphatic drainage supports the healing and comfort of scar tissue following surgery or injury. It helps improve mobility, appearance, and reduce sensitivity while promoting optimal tissue recovery through gentle, targeted techniques.
How It Works
Each session follows a structured, three-step process:
-
Gentle Massage
Relaxes the surrounding area, increases circulation and prepares the tissue around the scar. -
Targeted Scar Manipulation
Involves specific massage techniques to release any adhesions, break down fibrous tissue, improve flexibility, and reduce discomfort in scars. -
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Gently clears cellular debris, reduces localised inflammation, has a mildly analgesic effect and will strongly support the overall healing rate.
Timing & frequency
-
After the initial consultation, a series of 6 follow up treatments is usually suggested.
-
Follow-up & maintenance appointments scheduled as necessary.
-
Safe to start around 4–6 weeks post operatively, depending on the procedure and your healing rate.
What to Expect
-
Even after revision massage therapy, a scar will always remain — the goal of scar revision therapy is not to erase it completely, but to help it become less visible, softer, and more comfortable.
-
Scars naturally continue to change and mature for up to two years after they form, and gentle treatment during this time can make a significant difference to how they look and feel.
-
Most clients describe scar therapy and Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) as soothing rather than painful. You may feel mild tenderness or sensitivity at first, and it’s normal to notice a little warmth, redness, or swelling afterwards — these are temporary and part of your body’s healing response.
-
Your comfort always comes first. Each session is adapted to how your skin and tissue respond, ensuring treatment remains gentle, safe, and effective throughout your recovery.
Benefits
-
Reduces fluid retention around scars due to restricted lymphatic flow eg minimises 'c-section 'pouch'
-
Improves scar mobility, tightness and appearance.
-
Self-massage techniques taught to enhance results with you continuing the process at home during and after treatment.
-
Kinesio taping may be recommended to support healing.
Scars & the Lymphatic Connection
During an operation such as a c-section, both blood vessels and lymphatic vessels are cut. While blood vessels repair quickly, lymphatic vessels can take longer to re-establish proper flow. This may result in:
-
Puffiness or fluid pooling above the scar
-
Heaviness or swelling in peripheral body areas
-
Tightness or sensitivity in surrounding tissue
Scar Revision Therapy with MLD helps restore balance by gently encouraging lymph flow, softening adhesions, and improving how the tissues move and feel. Over time, this can relieve discomfort, reduce swelling, and restore lightness and mobility.
