Deep Oscillation Therapy (DOT)
Gentle support for swelling, fibrosis, pain, scar recovery and lymphatic health
Deep Oscillation Therapy (DOT) is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses electrostatic vibrations to create a soft pumping effect within the tissues. It is comfortable and soothing to receive and can be used on areas that are swollen, painful, bruised or healing, making it particularly useful in situations where tissues may not tolerate more intensive hands-on techniques.
At Richmond Park Therapies, Deep Oscillation is most commonly used alongside Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) to support clients experiencing swelling, oedema, fibrosis, scar tissue formation and post-surgical recovery.
What Does Deep Oscillation Treatment Feel Like?
Most clients describe Deep Oscillation as a gentle vibration or fluttering sensation beneath the skin. Treatment is generally very comfortable and can often be used even when tissues are tender, inflamed or sensitive to touch.
How Can Deep Oscillation Help?
Deep Oscillation may be beneficial for a variety of conditions, including:
• Post-surgical swelling and bruising
• Fibrosis and tissue hardening
• Scar tissue management
• Lipoedema
• Lymphoedema
• Persistent fluid retention and oedema
• Painful or sensitive tissues
• Soft tissue injuries
• Chronic inflammation
Because Deep Oscillation is gentle and well tolerated, it can be particularly useful during periods of healing and recovery when more intensive treatment approaches may be unsuitable.
Is Deep Oscillation Safe?
Deep Oscillation is generally considered a safe and well-tolerated therapy. It is used within the NHS and private clinical settings in a medical context. However, as with all treatments, there are circumstances in which it may not be appropriate. Your suitability for treatment will be assessed through your Health Information Form and consultation before treatment b
egins.
How Is Deep Oscillation Used at Richmond Park Therapies?
For clients seeking support with swelling, post-surgical recovery, fibrosis, lipoedema, lymphoedema or fluid retention, Manual Lymphatic Drainage is usually the most appropriate starting point.
Following your consultation and assessment, I may recommend incorporating Deep Oscillation Therapy where I believe it is likely to enhance your treatment outcomes. Not every client will benefit from Deep Oscillation, and it is not routinely included in every appointment.
Deep Oscillation may also be appropriate as a standalone treatment for certain pain-related or musculoskeletal conditions, or as part of scar tissue therapy.
Treatment is delivered using the latest generation of Deep Oscillation technology from PhysioPod (formerly known as the Hivamat).
Fees
Deep Oscillation as Part of Manual Lymphatic Drainage:
Where Deep Oscillation Therapy is incorporated into a Manual Lymphatic Drainage appointment, an additional fee of £10 applies on top of the usual MLD appointment fee.
Standalone Deep Oscillation Therapy:
Standalone Deep Oscillation Therapy appointments may be suggested for certain pain-related and musculoskeletal conditions. In this context, Deep Oscillation Therapy is delivered according to massage therapy principles rather than Manual Lymphatic Drainage protocols, and a 60-minute appointment costs £95.
Please note that standalone Deep Oscillation Therapy cannot be booked online. Whether you've been advised by your surgeon to include it as part of your recovery, or you're simply interested in exploring whether it might help you, please get in touch first so we can discuss whether this treatment is right for your needs.
Unsure Which Treatment Is Right For You?
If you're unsure whether Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Deep Oscillation Therapy or another treatment approach would be most appropriate, please feel free to get in touch. I'll be happy to discuss your circumstances and help you find the most suitable option.
