Pregnancy & Pre-Pregnancy Reflexology
Whether you are trying to conceive, newly pregnant, or approaching your due date, pregnancy and pre-pregnancy reflexology offers a calm and nurturing space to pause, rest, and reconnect with your body.
This gentle therapy can help you unwind, ease tension, and support overall wellbeing at every stage of your journey—from pre-conception through to late pregnancy.

Reflexology when Trying to Conceive
Many people choose reflexology when they are preparing for pregnancy or trying to conceive. Treatments can offer time out from the emotional ups and downs that sometimes accompany this stage, helping you feel more relaxed and supported.
While reflexology is not a medical treatment and cannot directly influence fertility or conception, many clients find that regular sessions help significantly reduce stress and anxiety, which are known to disrupt hormonal balance.
If you are receiving medical fertility support, reflexology can often sit comfortably alongside conventional care as a gentle complement to your wellbeing routine.
Reflexology During Pregnancy
Pregnancy brings many changes—physical, emotional, and hormonal. Reflexology offers a soothing, non-invasive way to support relaxation, helping you feel more at ease and comfortable as your body adapts.
Clients often describe feeling deeply rested after a session, with a greater sense of calm and connection to their growing baby.
Reflexology during pregnancy can also be a valuable part of your preparation for birth, giving you time to slow down and nurture yourself in the final weeks.
When to Begin Reflexology in Pregnancy
You can enjoy reflexology at any stage—before conception, in early pregnancy, or right through to your due date.
-
Pre-pregnancy: Provides a peaceful pause for self-care and emotional balance when you are preparing for or hoping to conceive.
-
First trimester: Offers gentle support as your body adjusts to the early changes of pregnancy*.
-
Second trimester: Helps maintain general wellbeing and ease as pregnancy progresses.
-
Final trimester: Encourages calm and comfort as you prepare for birth.
While every session can feel restorative, many people find that regular reflexology helps them maintain a steady sense of relaxation and wellbeing throughout this time.
For additional physical comfort, you may also enjoy Pregnancy Massage, which complements reflexology beautifully by easing muscle tension and promoting overall relaxation.
Can Reflexology Start Labour?
It’s a question many expectant parents ask: “Can reflexology bring on labour?”
The simple answer is no—reflexology cannot induce labour or medically start the birth process. If it could, the NHS would be using it instead of costly and invasive induction procedures.
However, it can help you to relax, rest, and feel more centred as your due date approaches. A calmer, more settled body may naturally be in the best possible state for labour to begin when it’s ready. For more details, see this blog post.

Is Reflexology Safe During Pregnancy?
Yes—reflexology is safe in pregnancy when provided by a practitioner trained in reflexology for fertility and maternity who understands how to adapt the techniques appropriately. Treatments should always include understanding any pregnancy issues or concerns and be tailored to your individual needs and comfort requirements.

*A Note on Early Pregnancy
Some women prefer to wait until after their 12-week scan before beginning pregnancy-related activities, but there’s no need to delay with reflexology unless you feel particularly anxious or would simply feel more comfortable waiting. Around one in five pregnancies do not continue beyond the first trimester, and miscarriage can occur. Sadly, this is a natural part of many women’s life journey, most often due to developmental issues with the pregnancy, and is not related to anything the mother has done, including receiving complementary therapies. If you ever feel worried or would like reassurance, your midwife or GP are always there to support you.
Close to Your Due Date?
If you’re hoping to have reflexology very close to your due date (ie past 38 weeks), please contact me first and let me know your plans. Rather than booking too far in advance, we can arrange to confirm a session on the day. This way, if your baby decides to arrive before your appointment, you won’t need to worry about my 24-hour cancellation policy. I’d much rather you be able to relax and look forward to your reflexology treatment without any concern about fees if labour begins sooner than expected.
